Why Kitesurf in Tarifa?
Wind, wind and more wind is the main reason...and thousands come for exactly that reason every year! Tarifa is known as the wind capital of Europe, and it is a reputation well deserved. The wind blows for over 300 days a year here and it is very unusual to have 2 consecutive days with no wind.
In Tarifa a week with less than 5 days of great conditions is pretty much unheard of at any time of the year and it is this reliability that keeps kitesurfers, experts and beginners alike, coming back year after year.
Glass Flat Water!
Over the summer months (June - Sept) in Tarifa Tantrum Kitesurf have a rescue boat at our disposal. This means we can operate on beaches in Tarifa where it wouldn't be possible without a boat. This gives us the unrivalled ability to train you on glass flat water whenever the levante (easterly wind) is blowing...and it blows for most of the summer! This alone massively improves your chances of getting up, riding and learning to kitesurf.
Total Kitesurfing Freedom along the Tarifa coast
Not coming to Tarifa during the summer? Don't worry, for the rest of the year we have absolute freedom to use all the beaches up and down the coast. This means that whatever the wind's doing we can get you to somewhere where you can get out. Many of these beaches have little used, flat water, shallow lagoons which you can learn in, which are absolutley perfect for mastering the waterstart and getting confident riding before setting sail on the open ocean.
TARIFA - THE LOCATION
Lessons will be conducted primarily at Los Lances beach, 5 mins drive from Tarifa (which we organise), however we are 100% mobile and so will be moving up and down the coast and the beaches of Tarifa as the wind and waves dictate. Los Lances beach itself is 14km long and about 500m wide so we have plenty of room to fly the kite. This year Tarifa town council has extended the kitesurf school zone by about 2 km so even in the height of summer we have as much room as we want and are not constantly avoiding other kiters. Tarifa is windy, if you get less than 5 days a week of wind your unlucky and most courses get out every day.
Details That Matter
We take care of all the little details during your stay in Tarifa, including accommodation, beach transfers, airport transfers, advice (and often personal guidance) on nights out and places to eat in Tarifa. Meaning you can relax and concentrate on the kitesurfing.
So how does a typical day look at Tantrum Kitesurf Tarifa?
Most people don't really know what to expect when coming on a holiday like this so we've put together a little day in the life section here so you can hopefully start to visualise what you're going to be doing in your time out here with us.
The (not too early) Start!
The morning begins and you'll get a text from us letting you know what the plan is for the day. We leave it to the morning so we have the absolute latest forecast and can make best use of the wind for that day. We'll all meet up in Bossa bar where you can grab some breakfast, a coffee, we can let you know all the details and answer any questions you might have. From there it's straight to the beach (we'll sort out getting you there) where you'll be introduced to your instructors for the day and you'll have a chance to check out the perfect, golden 14km long beaches we are lucky enough to have at our disposal here in Tarifa. If we've got our timings right the wind should just be coming in giving you enough time to set up the kit, get your wetsuits on and get ready for your kitesurfing experience.
Down the Beach
The actual day will differ depending on your individual level but we will break down into groups of maximum 4 people (usually less) and you'll start learning the next step on your road to kitesurfing mastery, all the while guarded and under the watchful eye of one of our highly experienced instructors. Instruction lasts for as long as we need it to, so there's no stress and we can take everything at a comfortable pace, we will break for lunch at an appropriate pòint to allow you to refresh and grab a bite to eat and a juice at one of the nearby beach bars. After that it's back into instruction until you're too tired or the sun sets!
Apres Kitesurf
After the session finishes we normally stay for a celebratory beer (or 2) in the beach bar before getting everyone back into town in time to shower. Most nights there's something going on and everyone tends to meet up at Bossa bar where cocktails are cheap (for Tantrum students) before heading out for some food, if things get going this can all too easily culminate in late night dancing (normally on the bar if Maria has anything to do with it) and a few hazy memories in the morning.
