FAQ

Answers To Common Questions On Any Kitesurfing Course

How many days should I book for as a complete novice?

We normally recommend people to do 3 days to get to grips with the basics and be just about up and doing their first few metres, 6 days if you want to be fully independent. That is kitesurf-able days, the conditions do not always smile upon us (even here in Tarifa!), so if you leave 1 or 2 days a week to let the wind mess around a bit and factor that into your timings you should leave achieving the level of competency you require.

What if i’m not happy with my kitesurfing course or the service i’m receiving?

We believe we provide a great service and are prepared to put our money where our mouth is. If you’re not happy with any aspect of the course in the first 3 days and we can’t fix it to your satisfaction we will give you your money back, in addition we’ll give you an extra 10% back to say sorry, we will also help you find another kitesurf school and kitesurfing course in Tarifa that better suits your needs. We are so confident in our teaching methods and level of service that we stand behind this guarantee 100%.

Where will I stay during my kitesurfing course and how do I get to the beach?

We make your kitesurfing course easy by arranging your accommodation at our spacious apartment in the centre of Tarifa. Here you can enjoy great views over the Straits of Gibraltar onto Morocco and the friendly atmosphere of living with your fellow students with the convenience of being 5 mins walk from the bars and restaurants of the old town and 2 mins walk from the beach.

If the apartment is full (you will be informed of this upon booking) we will arrange accommodation in one of the hostels in the centre of town, where we will try to house you with your course mates.

Getting to and from the various kitesurfing locations is easy as we’ll pick you up from your accommodation in the morning and drop you back in the evening. We can even transfer you from the airport. (please be aware we do charge for this..see the getting to Tarifa page for more info)

What happens if there’s no wind to kitesurf during my kitesurfing course?

We’ll be at the beach every day as the wind is often very difficult to predict and almost always blows at some point and when it does we’ll be there waiting. In the case of no wind we’ll charge you 10 € just to cover our expenses.

There is plenty of other stuff to keep you entertained whilst you’re here if we do get a definite no wind day, (they do happen even in Tarifa!), or you simply fancy a change, check out the other things to do in Tarifa page for a better idea of other things you can get up to. We will keep you updated with the latest weather forecast so if you do want to do anything else whilst your here you can pick the best day to do it.

How Much Does It Cost?

Courses are 110 € per day for Unlimited Hours Instruction and 85 € a day for Unlimited Hours Supervision with Kit Hire. Supervision without kit hire is 85 € a day.

Do you offer Airport Transfers?

We offer airport transfers at the following prices, prices are each way, per transfer (not per person)

  • Gibraltar: 65 € - 45 mins
  • Jerez: 110 € - 1 hour 15 mins
  • Malaga: 140 € - 1 hour 45 mins
  • Seville: 170 € - 2 hours 30 mins

Where is the apartment located?

Our apartment is located in the centre of town, 2 mins walk from the beach and 2 mins walk from all the bars and cafe’s.

Does the accommodation have a kitchen?

Yes!

Can I have a private room?

Private rooms are available at certain times of year…generally the quieter times, so please feel free to enquire when you get in touch.

Can I organise my own accommodation?

Absolutely no problems, please just let us know and we can point you in the right direction.

Can I get some photo’s taken of my course?

We have a professional photographer on hand most days to take snaps of your course, photo packs can be ordered when you book your course or just chat to our photographer once you’re here.

Can I just do a few days first to see if I like it and then extend once I’m there?

This is no problem however bear in mind we take a maximum of 8 people at any one time and once we are booked we are booked. So if you take this option and the extra days become fully booked we will arrange you to complete your lessons with one of the schools we work with closely here in Tarifa.

Do I need any equipment?

No, we provide everything you will need.

Do I need a car?

We will take you to and from the beach each day and Tarifa is a small enough place that you don’t need a car to get around town, however if you want to do any exploring while you are here or want a few more options on no wind days a car is always a good idea. Car hire is very cheap in Spain (but beware of hidden costs!).

How do I get to the beach?

We will take you to and from the beach each day.

I’ve ordered an airport transfer, how do I find the driver?

Just give our driver a ring on: +34 674 056 072 once you land at the airport and they’ll give you direction as to how to find them.

What if I want a day off in the middle of a course?

We only accept 8 people at a time onto our courses to keep the numbers down and ensure we offer the best possible service. We have no problems with people taking a few days off here and there (the wind often builds them in for us anyway) however because as a business we are so reliant on the wind (and we never know which days the wind is going to blow) we reserve for you all the days that you book for, effectively denying others the ability to book for those dates. If you then don’t kitesurf for most of those days it means that we lose money, others lose the ability to go kitesurfing and our instructors don’t get paid.

Do you do private/semi private lessons?

Yes we do, please enquire for details.

What equipment do you use?

We use this years Delta Bow kites and all our bars are built with the most secure safety systems on the market.

My partner wants to come who won’t be kitesurfing is that ok?

Absolutely no problems. Most of the year we will even be able to give them a lift with us to the beach and back, this is not guaranteed and depends on exact numbers on the day.

Do I get my own kite?

We work mostly in group lessons which gives us a ratio of 1 instructor to 4 people and 2 kites. If you want your own kite we do offer semi- private and private lessons. Please contact us for more information.

What time do we start?

Courses start as soon as the wind does. In practice this is not normally before 11 o’clock as this is generally when the wind starts.

What time do we finish?

Lessons last as long as there is wind/light/energy in your body! This can be until 9 or 10 o’clock in the summer, but generally around 8ish.

How many hours a day can I expect to be kitesurfing for?

This is totally reliant on the wind and so difficult to say for any given week, however on average we reckon we will be teaching for around 6 hours a day.

How is the wind in ….?

We are blessed in Tarifa with year round wind due to the topography of the place. There is no windy season and you are as likely to get wind in August as you are in January. That said it is windy, 300 days of wind a year is no exaggeration, so you’re giving yourself a great chance of wind whenever you come.

If there is no wind on a particular day, and I’ve booked say 3 days, will the day be transferred to another date?

In the summer months as we are likely to be fully booked (we take a maximum of 8 people at any one time) it is unlikely that this will be possible as the ‘subsequent days’ will most likely have been reserved by others. That said we do work very closely with several other kite schools and so will be able to organise lessons you on those days. In the winter when we are generally quieter and thus much more flexible, this shouldn’t be a problem.

What options do I have once the kitesurfing course is over?

At Tantrum Kitesurf we don’t believe that when the kitesurfing course is over we should just say goodbye and never see you again. Our after course support is famous as being the best in the business, once you’ve finished your course with us if you have any questions or problems related to kitesurfing, equipment, technique or holiday destinations just get in touch and we’ll help you any way we can.
