Snowkite Course FAQ

Is Snowkiting easier than Kitesurfing?

Learning to snowkite is much easier than learning to kitesurf. For a start the ground's not moving under your feet! Typically even those with no experience can be up and riding independently after just a 2 day snowkite course. If you have prior experience of kitesurfing or snowboarding / skiing this time will be substantially reduced. The real advantage of taking a snowkite course is that we need a lot less wind to be able to practice than you do for kitesurfing. It is much easier to be dragged over snow (on a board or ski's hopefully!)than it is to be pulled up on top of and then over the water. Thus we tend to look for much more tranquil conditions which automatically make your learning experience quicker, safer and easier. That said doing a snowkite course will set you up perfectly for learning to kitesurf. After cruising around on the snow for a few days you're kite control will be excellent and your confidence sky high, meaning that you'll be able to transfer these skills onto the water in a matter of hours.

Are the kites used to snowkite the same as those used for kitesurfing?

One of our goals is to prepare you to learn to kitesurf, that's why we use kitesurfing bow kites during a snowkite course. These kites are fully depowerable and 100%. The skills you learn flying these transfer perfectly into kitesurfing and will mean that you are able to get up and cruising in the summer in an even shorter time.

Ski's or Snowboard?

You can use either during you snowkite course and we would recommend you to use whichever you are more comfortable with. We generally find that ski's are easier for beginners. However once you're up and off anything will do...tea tray, sledge, car bonnet....you get the idea.

Do i need a specially adapted snowboard or ski's for snowkiting?

NO, whilst there are now more and more snowkite specific ski's or snowboards appearing on the market these are absolutely not required during your snowkite course,or at any time afterwards, your own snowboard / ski's will last you for your entire snowkiting career. Feel free to bring along your own ski's/snowboard for your snowkite course if you like. If you don't have any don't worry you can easily hire them once you're here.
