Looking for cheap flights?

Have you looked at Jerez Airport? This is a small airport near Tarifa that is served by many UK airports and as very few people know about it flights tend to be a bit cheaper!

The Location

Lessons will be conducted primarily at Los Lances beach, however we are 100% mobile and so will be moving up and down the coast as the wind and waves dictate. Los Lances beach itself is 14km long and about 500m wide so we have plenty of room to fly the kite. This year the kite zone has been extended by about 2 km so even in the height of summer we have as much room as we want and are not constantly avoiding other kiters. Tarifa is windy, if you get less than 5 days a week of wind your unlucky and most courses get out every day.

So why come to Tarifa?

Wind, wind and more wind is the main reason...and thousands come for exactly that reason every year! Tarifa is known as the wind capital of Europe, and it is a reputation well deserved. The wind blows for over 300 days a year here and it is very unusual to have 2 consecutive days with no wind. A week with less than 5 days of great conditions is pretty much unheard of at any time of the year and it is this reliability that keeps kitesurfers, experts and beginners alike, coming back year after year.

Tarifa has two prevailing winds, the Levante and the Poniente. The Levante is the big boy, it blows night and day and can last for weeks, because it blows from the land it is warmer and does not generally form waves, perfect for mastering that water start. The Poniente blows from the Atlantic, it is a clean, constant wind generally a little lighter than the levante and brings waves. Which is great for preparing you for conditions back home and boosting you confidence levels. Both winds blow year round with the levante being the dominant wind in the summer and the Poniente in the winter.

We generally only need a force 2 to learn to kitesurf!

The temperature in Tarifa stays mild all year round and it is not unusual to be wearing shorts and t shirt in the middle of winter. Put on a winter wetsuit (which we provide) and you'll be fine in the water all day. Tarifa offers a great escape for those looking for a bit of winter sun and at this time of year the beaches are empty so conditions could not be better to learn to kitesurf or improve your skills.

If you combine this with the fact that Tarifa is one of the most accessible kite spots in Europe, being served by the airports of Gibraltar, Malaga, Jerez or Seville and that prices for flights can be as low as 50€ in the winter you have the perfect year round kite surfing destination.
